ningun k  - cd on staalplaat

a collage of audio samples, (de)constructed in order to melt together in the plunderphonic way. belgian artist anton aeki got to oppurtunity to release his first material on staalplaat. after listening to the cd once, you'll immediately get the impression that you've listened to one big song, instead of 10 seperate tracks. some of the samplework is quite archaic and simplistic, but that's really attractive actually! experimental and some noise is anton's approach. i find the music interesting to listen to. you always discover new (sometimes) hidden sounds and effects. it is hard to make comparisons to other projects. on some occassions i am reminded
of deutsch nepal though. original, yes. anton pushes each audio sample to the limit. he succeeds in creating an atmosphere. and all sounds and songs are glued together perfectly, a harmony of phonics. good debut!

anton aeki ningun k (korm plastics/staalplaat/soleilmoon) - det wiehI-den/basic two korm plastics/staalplaat/soleilmoon) - spore bobble (korm plastics/staalplaat/soleilmoon)

the latest in the oddly named korm plastics introductory paperback series of releases (a series intended to expose adventurous listeners to relatively new and unestablished artists in the field of electronic and experimental sound), this eclectic trio of discs serve their intended purpose well. anton aeki offers a set of weird loops, rumbling noise, mangled vocal samples and even some bicycle bells; duo det wiehl gather together soundscapes of treated guitar as recorded for several modern dance troupes; and tim rabjohns aka spore serves up the most accessible disc of the three (although "accessible" is a very relative term in this case) featuring
unique and slightly disconcerting rhythmic sound environments. And the 1960s cookbook theme used for the packaging of all three releases is a nice (albeit somewhat strange) touch.

feedback monitor - november 1999

released as part of korm plastics introductory series this is a fine debut of crisp and crunchy scrambled electronics and surreal sound collage. the reliance on fax and telephone tones reminded me of noto, but this is not half as minimal. the well-recorded sound
collage work veers spastically from noisy to humorous, without ever losing control or focus. the dark atmosphere adds a bit of an " old school" (can i say that ?) industrial feel occasionally - the less rhythmic parts of throbbing gristle, or many of the semi-forgotten
bands on the "elephant table" compilation from the mid eighties. the moods and the sound palette varies greatly, making me compare them (especially on the final track) to my favorite electronic outfit right now : stilluppsteypa, who also had a disc out as part
of the korm plastics introductory series. like the icelandic trio, anton aeki produces very intense pieces of abstract sounds, with a slight menacing air about them. now if we can crowd the music market with stilluppsteypa-influenced rock, pop, rap and disco i can retire satisfied.
